Its good for artists as they still get paid royalties. the bad things about music channels are that some of them you have to pay for. They also may not be playing the song you want. The music channels are getting out dated by streaming websites as they allow people to search for any music video they want to watch whenever they want, wherever they want. CD/special edition CD/DVD releases are good because you will be able to watch the video whenever you want. It is a good thing for the artist as special releases of CD's will cost more this means they will get more money from it, this is also bad for the customer as this will cost them more and they might get bored of the song. They also allow artists to earn money through albums and other merchandise like t-shirts.
